Overhead catenary is an important power supply system for the electrified railway. Its breakdown will cause serious problems of the whole railway line. As condition-based maintenance requires numerous data and large amount of analysis, the traditional catenary management is not only time-consuming, but also prone to mistakes. Therefore, it is necessary to manage the overhead catenary system with computer. Thus, we develop the management system for overhead catenary and its condition-based maintenance. The requirement analysis of the management system is carried out and the system is modeled by UML in this thesis, based on which the management system is developed. Research is focused on the following:Firstly, the condition-based maintenance is thoroughly investigated, especially its structure and the contents of the maintenance, and the Unified Modeling Language and its modeling process is studied. Secondly, on the basis of the investigation about overhead catenary operation and its condition-based maintenance, this thesis analyzes the functional requirements and divides the management system into four modules: equipment management, contact line management, operation management and condition-based management. Moreover, the architecture of the management system is analyzed. In addition, the requirement analysis and each module are modeled according to UML, and the physical model is established for the management system. Finally, the management system is developed by using Delphi 7 as the development platform, Microsoft SQL Server for the database. This management system has comprehensive functions, clear configuration and a user-friendly interface. The operation of the management system indicates that it has good reliability, intelligibility and maintainability, and it satisfies all rational requirements of the users.
