As an important part of historical and cultural heritage, the officially protected sites reflected the history and evolution of the city. It carries historical and cultural information which is the soul of the city. Officially protected sites are not solitary image in the city; they convey the unique context together with the environment. However, with the rapid development of urbanization, the environment of the officially protected sites has suffered damages because of the limited external physical space, some of which even disappeared. Therefore, the new vision and path for the protection of officially protected sites is evoked.Wuhan has vantage in natural system resources. The development and layout of the city should not separate from integral and natural environment, meantime the evolvement of urban form and space laid the brand of natural resources in varying degrees, and the layout of the officially protected sites is cohered with the natural environment. This study attempted to track green space system, development and change of officially protected sites to explore the way of combining the heritage and urban green space planning with the construction together, in order to promote the combinability of urban green space system planning and heritage conservation.Based on field survey of thirty-six officially protected sites, this study discussed the components, environmental evolvement, distributing and character of officially protected sites in Wuhan. After that, it classifies officially protected sites by their environment estimation, and puts forward the concept of collectivity protection, landscape induce and culture promotion, makes substance protection strategies and methods of various officially protected sites. In order to demonstrate the reality and validity of the guidelines, three sites which are different in protection strategies are chosen for case studies.
