Gantry cranes, large outdoor loading and unloading machines, are widely used in a variety of industries. With the rapid development of national economy and booming of the logistics industry, the requirement for gantry cranes has been increasing, not only for the quantity and variety, but also for quality and design. The traditional design method has spent much effort on model building, structure design and intensity checkout, which resulted in lengthening design cycle and limited development of corporation. To take the demand for efficient product design and competitiveness, this thesis focuses on creating the CAD system of gantry crane for manufactural companies.Based on knowledge driving and case reasoning, this paper has constructed the frame of crane design system. Similar case, as a reference model for new product, is searched in knowledge database; shared class library has been made by using object-oriented CAD technology, and application system is completed. This system analyzes structure shape and design parameter of gantry crane, includes internal force calculation and carrying capacity checkout, and has obtained calculation model of steel structure. Database system with the C/S mode through the LAN is established, for managing parameters information and structure size of case model; the data can be transmitted by ADO.NET and be bound with controls. The CAD system uses VB.NET as development platform and has built alternant interface. XML integration technology, software secondary development technique and encryption method are implemented.This paper tests rationality of the CAD system by designing 32/5t double-girder gantry crane. It proves that the design system can quickly accomplish structure designing and drawing by changing some parameters. This has reduced cost and has shortened development cycle of new product.
