In the development process of substation automation system(SAS), most of the electronic devices from different manufacturers have a poor interoperability for lacking of a unified communication standard, and it makes more difficult to the operation and maintenance of the substation. In order to solve this problem, the IEC 61850 communication networks and system in substations is proposed by IEC TC57. This thesis studies the background of IEC 61850 standard series and the architecture of the documents. After making a more in-depth study of the device model and the communication protocol of messages in the standard, this thesis constructs the information model of the intelligent control unit in process level and the control unit in bay level of the intelligent control system in substation using the method of function decomposing, the data flow and the hierarchical modeling. The real time communication between the information models has been realized through the transmission of GOOSE message, and the interoperability of the device has been improved.
