Water Content Effects On Mortar's Compressive Strength And Brick Masonry's Shear Strength

The problem that the strength of masonry structure materials will reduce after soaked in flood affects the structures'safety and durability. So far, the study on the mechanical properties of masonry structure materials after soaked in flood home and aboard is still in the initial stage. In consideration of the reality and the urgency of the problem, this paper will study the compressive strength and shearing strength of masonry structure materials which are soaked in flood.This paper carried out an experimental research based on the research results of cement-based composite materials and the water content effects on bonding strength of the brick-mortar interface. Then give the variation of the compressive strength of mortar specimens which were soaked in different times and the shearing strength of brick masonry which were soaked in different times too. The paper also simulated the influence that water content exerted on the compressive strength of mortar in 48 hours, and separated water content to find the influence that water content exerted on the shearing strength of brick masonry.According to experimental data, the paper obtained the relationship between water content and soaking time of mortar, the relationship between compressive strength and moisture content of mortar. And the paper obtained the relationship between water content and soaking time of mortar, the relationship between compressive strength and moisture content of mortar. By experimental data and existing theoretical, the paper propose formula of mortar's compressive strength and brick masonry's shear strength with considered the water content.
