Suspen-dome is a new kind of hybrid structure which is combined with the single-layer spherical reticulated shell and the cable-strut system. Suspen-dome has better mechanical properties compared to single-layer spherical reticulated shell structures, the overall stiffness of the structure gets a larger increasing because of prestress. The suspen-dome can be applied to a larger span of the spatial structure.The paper introduces the background, characteristics, application and status of suspen-dome research in China and in the world and briefly introducing the purpose and significance of supporting structure.The geometric non-linear finite element theory and finite element equations used to calculate and analysis were described in detail.One K8 suspen-dome structure was analyzed, considering the supporting structure of steel columns. By form-finding analysis, with reasonable prestress ratio and value of travel cable, and studying the distribution of member bar internal force and joint displacement under the static load.The natural vibration frequency of various order and vibration model were obtained by studying the natural vibration characteristics of suspen-dome structure. By comparing the structural dynamic properties under the case that the boundary conditions were simply supported and clamped supported, the influence of using the supporting structure on natural vibration characteristics was researched.The dynamic response of structure under one-dimensional and multi-dimensional earthquake excitation was researched based on the time-history analysis. Analyzing dynamic internal force distribution of bars and displacement time history curves of nodes, and the influence of earthquake dimensionality number and earthquake input direction on the structural dynamic response.Based on the above analysis, the influence of paramaters were studied, such as boundary conditions, span, rise-span ratio and prestress on the static characteristics, dynamic characteristics and seismic response of the structure.
