Comparison And Analysis Of RC Shear Wall And RM Shear Wall Structure Design In Small High-rise Residential Buildings

Small high-rise residential building was widely used in China small town real estate market.Many structure systems could be used when a small high-rise residential building structure design is beginning , such as masonry structure , reinforced concrete shear wall structure, reinforced concrete frame structure with special shaped columns , short limb shear wall , reinforced masonry structure and so on. The definition of short-limb shear walls given by Chinese code'Technical specification for concrete structures of tall building (JGJ3—2002) is :when the length of the limb is less than 5~8 times thickness of the limb. It is not correct because the definition only considers the height of section of limb without taking the opening on the wall. In this article limb strength coefficientζand integrative coefficientαwere used to give the short-limb shear wall a basic explain.RM was the abbreviation of reinforced concrete masonry shear wall structure, the essence of RM is prefabricated reinforced concrete shear wall. It was widely used in civil buildings such as residential building, hotel building, office building in other countries . The International standard of《Code of practice for design of reinforced masonry》ISO 9652-3 was compiled by China and other countries such as UK,USA,and Germany in 2000, It covers the modern reinforced masonry design and construction principles, which will popularize the usage of the system internationally. Based upon which, reinforced masonry system was first introduced into Chinese national structure design code in 2002.Comparing with RC shear wall ,a few RM building had been builded in China .Shortage of RM design code, kind of bricks, CAD software are the three main reason caused the situation.PKPM are widely used in China architecture design institute. QITI, a whole new module was issued in 2008. This is the first commercial CAD software about RM in China. Comparing with RC shear wall structure, there are many differences between the two kinds shear wall when the structure engineer using QITI during designing a RM structure . In this article, through changing the analysis model of structure , the author compared the difference between RM and RC and give some useful advises about RM design.
