With the national economy growth and the development of transportation, energy has become increasingly conspicuous. Therefore, improving the productivity of transport of vehicles and reducing fuel consumption of vehicles is one of the important issues to be resolved in the automotive industry at present. The power train has great influence on automobile's power performance and fuel economy, so its parameter is very important in the design of an automobile. In this paper, the computer simulation and multi-objective optimization theory is used in the design of the powertrain in order to improve the performance of the automobile.Firstly, the paper establishes a mathematical model of automobile engine and a simulation program of automobile power performance and fuel economy. The power performance simulation program includes calculation of the maximum speed, climb performance, and accelerate performance:the fuel economy simulation program includes calculation of fuel consumption at constant speed and multi-condition fuel consumption. Based on theory of multi-objective optimization an optimization mode for powertrain of automobile is set up in this paper. The optimization mode uses parameter of transmission as variation:uses he origin underway accelerate time and the oil consumption as the objective functions:uses the requirement of automobile power performance and requirement of transmission design as restriction. The advanced genetic algorithm NSGA-â…¡has been adopted to do the optimization.At the end of the paper, the author uses the simulation program to calculate by the example of a microbus and the simulation result coincides with that obtained from the real automobile. After optimization a series of optimal solutions is obtained. Pick up one of the optimal solutions and analyses the optimization result, the results demonstrate that the proposed multi-objective optimization scheme is very effective for optimization of powertrain of automobile.
