With the development of computer-aided design technology, the production and management level has improved continuously in enterprise. New products are emerge one after another, competition is intensified increasingly, new requirement has been proposed for development and innovation of logistics system in enterprise. Automatic warehouse is an important part of logistics; it is logistics equipment which cans automatically storage and removal storage in the case of indirect human intervention. Stacker crane is the most important lifting stacking equipment of automatic warehouse, When received the command signal from the computer,stacker crane is running back and forth in the stereo roadway to complete the storage and removal operation of goods. Stacker crane is a high-tech development product in modern industrial society; it has a great significance in improving productivity and reducing costs.Although stacker cranes vary, the basic structure is similar. As if bio-genetic law, most stackers form new products by changing parameters or configuration of the structure under the same basic shape, it is consistent with the characteristics of genetic and variation. Such structural features laid a good foundation for the study of gene variant design.This paper firstly analyze background and significance of research, study the current domestic and foreign development status, including the development history of the stacker, gene application in theoretical and practical aspects and the development of variant design.From the angle of basic theories, compared with the biological growth process, this paper study the concept of gene and gene model, and its decomposition and reconstruction principles, this paper also analyze the genetic model'application in the gene variant design process.In technology application,the key technology used in the variant design process is introduced, including gene extraction, gene transfer, gene encoding, gene recombination technology etc. The different variant design method described in this article is applicable to different types of stacker crane generation.The Stackers crane's variant design system was developed on the basis of the above theory and technology. With a practical example, this paper describes the development process in detail, including the extraction of the concept gene and structural gene, the construction of stacker crane. Then the parametrical interface and model-driven interface of the system is devised on the basis of the base type, the stacker variant design in the system can be automatically achieved by programming. Finally operational process of variant design system is been introduced briefly.This paper apply the gene-based design method to stacker crane, its feasibility has been verified. This system will help improve the component's generalization extent, shorten product design cycle; it can provide a good platform for improving the ability of innovative design.
