In order to inspect the preventive and curative effects of a Chinese herbal medicine preparation "KL oral liquid (KL) on the Pullorum Disease (P.O.) and to investigate the mechanism of its curative action, the present study was carried out in clinical healthy ISA Brown male chicken at one-day-old of age as the testing objects, and the Salmonella Pullorum C79-13 (S.P.D.C79-13) was utilized as stock virus to attack the testing birds. A series of experiments were conducted, including preventive test, treatment test, feeding test, anti-diarrhea test, anti-inflammation test and KL's bacteriostasis test in vitro, the results are listed as follows: Both KL and Norfloxacin could significantly decrease the incidence of P.O. of testing chicken (PO.01), and compared to Norfloxacin, the preventive effect of KL was better (P<0.05). There was no significant difference between KL and Norfloxacin on the effect of curing P.O., but when KL and Norfloxacin were used together, the incidence of curing P.O. was significantly increased (PO.01). Compared to the control, KL could significantly increase the testing chicken average body weight (PO.05) and thymus index (PO.01). This means that KL has the function of promoting growth and improving the immunity against the disease. KL could effectively restrain mouse' diarrhea caused by a purgative herb fanxieye (PO.01). KL could obviously restrain the sthenic of capillary vessel's permeability at the belly skin of mouse caused by xylene (PO.01). The test of bacteriostasis in vitro showed that, the lowest inhibited bacteria concentration of KL to S.P.D.C79-13 was 1:32, which converting to quality concentration was 15.625g-L; the lowest killed bacteria concentration of KL to S.P.D.C79-13 was 1:16, which converting to quality concentration was 31.25g-L. In conclusion, KL could effectively prevent the P.D. caused by S.P.D.. And cooperated with Norfloxacin, KL had a good clinical effect on curing the P.D.. Meanwhile, KL also had the function of bacteriostasis, anti-diarrhea and anti-inflammation.
