In order to find out a good cultivar for mid-north-subtropical region of China, 5 raspberries and 1 blackberry have been introduced in Ya'an, Province Sichuan, the growth character, blooming and bearing habit, economic features of fruit, main diseases and pests of them were observed and studied. Peroxidase (POD) isoenzyme has been determined to distinguish them into classes. The results showed:1. The raspberries and blackberry could grow normally and bloom and bear in Ya'an. They could go through natural dormancy in winter.2. The growing season of the introduced cultivars became longer, the time from budding to fruit ripening got earlier, defoliation put off. Fruits ripened 35 days earlier than that in Shenyang. The longer growing season is good for photosynthesis and accumulation of carbohydrate of trees.3. The fruits have beautiful color and good shape and were rich in nutrition. Compared with in Shenyang, the weight of fruit was lighter and the sugar content was lower. But the fruits were especially rich in vitamin E, SOD and Se.4. The raspberries of cultivar 'Meiguo 21', 'Meiguo 22', 'Aozhouhong' and blackberry 'A4-17' were generally good. Their trees had strong growth vigor, high yields, and bigger fruit. Their fruits had higher hardness and were good for storage. But the precipitation was high in Ya'an, especially during the fruit ripening, which could cause the ripened fruits rotten and the yields decreasing. So it was not suitable to grow raspberry39and blackberry in large area in Ya'an.5. Drosophila melanpgaster and Lepidoptera were two noticeable pests for raspberries and blackberry. Drosophila melanpgaster could make the ripened fruits lose their economic features entirely. The nymph of a kind of Lepidoptera could do harm to primary stem of raspberries and decrease the yields in coming year.6. Peroxidase (POD) isoenzyme electrophoresis could be effectively used to distinguish the cutivars of raspberries and blackberry into classes.
