Objective:herpes zoster virus, also called chicken pox herpes zoster virus, is a kind of herpes virus that infringes the nervous tissue of patients. Postherpetic neuralgia is the most common chronic complications of herpes zoster and is also the most common type of neuralgia after infection. When the acute herpes zoster is clinically cured and the basic skin lesions have restored, but the damaged skin segment continues to pain for more than 1 month, such symptom can be defined as postherpetic neuralgia. Among all the patients with postherpetic neuralgia, almost half of them are older than 60. Currently, there are various kinds of therapy in traditional Chinese and western medicine. Western medicine mainly uses antiviral to relieve pains and trophic nerve, while traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) mainly is heat-clearing and detoxifying, promoting blood circulation to remove blood stasis; both of the analgesic effect is poor. Fu’s Subcutanous Needling was invented by Nanjing University Physiology Dr. Fu Zhonghua and won the national invention patent (international patent main classification number:A61H39/08) in August 2002. Since its invention in 1996, after many years of accumulation and perfection, Fu’s Subcutanous Needling therapy has become gradually mature. Fu’s Subcutanous Needling therapy, as a new kind of acupuncture therapy with TCM characteristics, is featured by lasting curative effect, extensive indication and easy operation, and remarkable curative effect especially on analgesia. The project adopts Fu’s Subcutanous Needling therapy with unique characteristics of TCM and Jiaji points selection, can effectively control the pain symptoms of herpes zoster and opens a new train of thought for the therapy of herpes zoster. Besides, the project provides evidence-based medical evidence for the further popularization and application of the treatment of herpes zoster with Fu’s Subcutanous Needling to fetch Jiaji points and eventually serves the broad masses of the people. Methods:the study intends to divide 40 patients with postherpetic neuralgia into experimental group and control group (20 cases respectively) through randomized controlled method. The experimental group has TCM Taohong Siwu decoction orally and Fu’s Subcutanous Needling Jiaji points at the same time, while the control group just TCM Taohong Siwu decoction orally. Both experimental group and control group take 7 days as a period of treatment; the treatment ends until patients’ pains are cured; the remaining ones end after four courses for treatment; follow-up visits are conducted after one month of the end of in end of therapy course. Patients’ herpes, the time when the pains began to ease, VAS values and pain paresthesia relief are observed and recorded.Results:1. The experimental group and control group have no statistical differences in ages and genders.2. For the comprehensive curative effect, total effective rate of experimental group in which Fu’s Subcutanous Needling is used to cure PHN is 70% while that of the control group in which TCM is used is 50%,3. For pain relief, VAS scores of the two groups before treatment show no statistical significance; at the end of the treatment, the VAS scores of the experimental group and control group have statistical differences; that of Fu’ s Subcutanous Needling group is higher than the TCM control group.4. For the whole course time of the treatment of pains, Fu’s Subcutanous Needling treatment group is obviously shorter than the TCM control group.5. Patients of the two groups don’t have adverse reactions and detachment. Conclusions:the experimental group and control group have good pain analgesic effect in the treatment of postherpetic neuralgia. Compared with the treatment of postherpetic neuralgia with TCM, Fu’s Subcutanous Needling therapy to fetch Jiaji points shorten the treatment time, reduce patients’ pains, is more simpler to operate, has less acupoint selection, higher repetitive rate, is safer, has no side effects. Thus, such therapy is worthy further promoting and using in clinic.
