Hebei is one of the main production areas of maize, Maize production in Hebei Province plays an important role in food production, the sown area and output ranked first, with its output accounting for about 50% of total grain output in recent years, the sowing area is about 4,600 acres, the total area and vield account for about 10% respectively in the whole country. For many years corn yield has been wandering in Hebei Province, production efficiency is quite low, the farmers enthusiasm of growing corn is affected. Therefore, planting high yield potential varieties, coupled with optimization of cultivation techniques, play an important role in increasing the total yield and safeguarding grain safety. Feng Yu-4 maize hybrid was cultivated by Hebei Huafeng Seed Industry Development Co., Ltd. affiliating to Agricultural Engineering and Technology Research Center for semi-arid aera in China. This cultivar was approved by Hebei Province in 2006. It is middle riping cultivar, its suitable planting density is 4500-5000 plants/acre, and it is the only density tolerate cultivar suitable for planting at 5000 plants/acre approved by Hebei Province in recent years. In 2008'"Science and Technology of Grain Production Project", the average yield in a summer corn demonstration aera(total 5 acre) of Xinji city reached 788.45 kg/mu, which created a high yield record in summer corn production of Hebei province. In recent years, Feng Yu-4'extension area is increasing rapidly, it is expected to become the major cultivar in Hebei Province.Although Feng Yu 4 is tolerate to high density and has high yield potential and some planting area in Hebei Province, the high yield trait could not be displaied in many places. The main reason is lack of assorted techniques. Therefore, the high-yielding maize varieties Feng Yu 4 resistant to high density was sellceted as the experimental material in this paper. The process of yield formation, the quantitative yield criteria and suitabla cultivation techniques have systematically studied, which will not only provide technical support for high yielding cultivation of Hebei'high density tolerent corn cultivar, but also guide farmers to make standard production, fully display yield potential of the cultivar, make farmers to increase income, and finally make contribution for the food security of our country.The main contents in this study included:(1) The effects of different density and chemical control conditions on agronomic traits of Feng Yu 4 maize. (2) The optimum harvest time of Feng Yu 4. (3) The effects of different fertilizers, different application methods and the different fertilizer amount on the yield performance of Fung Yu-4. The main results were as follows:1. The appropriate density of Feng Yu 4:4,5000-5500 plants/mu, the maximum density did not exceed 6000 plants/acre. The most appropriate chemical control agent was Yuduoli, the best spraying time was between 6 and 7 full leaf.2. The 60 kg fertilization(N, P, K content of 28-4-8%) per mu was applied all as the base fertilizer, which could gain higher yield and higher economic income than conventional fertilizer application method with several times.3.The best harvest time:The ear bracts became white, the middle milk line on the grain disappeared, the grain became shining, and the filling period from silk appearing to harvest must exceed 50 days.
