Chinese medicine rhizome gastrodiae, the dried rhizoma of Orehidaceae Gastrodieae, is a rare herbal medicine. It not only plays a role in sedation and acesodyne on central nervous system but also can reduce blood pressure of periphery, resist blood and oxygen deficit and enhance our bodies'abilities of memory and immunization. There are various processing methods for gastrodiae's production with different effects on its quality. A number of fakements also appear in the market. Colorimetry and High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) were applied to determine the content of the ethanol-soluble extracts, water-soluble extracts, soluble sugar, polysaccharide, total sugar, gastrodin and total hydroxybenzene of Shaanxi gastrodia elata blume of different processing methods, different types, and different harvesting time, respectively. Based on these, Colorimetry, HPLC and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FITR) were adopted for investigating the qualities of gastrodia, which produced in five different places: Shaanxi, Sichuan, Gansu, Yunnan and Guizhou, and comparing HPLC fingerprint with FTIR fingerprint of gastrodia. Moreover, the gastrodia has a characteristic smell in practice. However, there are no reports about its chemical constituents of volatile components by now. Therefore, a preliminary study was carried out on the essential oil of Gastrodia after steaming by GC-MS to determine the constituents of it. The objective of the series of studies is to determine the best processing methods and the optimum harvest time for Shaanxi gastrodia, and establish the technique system for evaluating its quality and identifying the fakements. The major results according to the research include:1. Choosing the gastrodin content as the controllable index, it was determined that the effect of the five kinds of processing methods (vacuum drying, freeze-drying, drying after boiling, drying after steaming, and oven drying) upon the contents of ethanol extracts, water-soluble extracts, soluble sugar, polysaccharide, total sugar, gastrodin and total hydroxybenzene of Gastrodia elata blume. The results showed that the treatment of drying after boiling, by which the gastrodin content was the highest (0.45%) among the five methods, is the best one.2. Dynamic mensuration of the content of ethanol extracts, water-soluble extracts, soluble...
