We evaluated quality of licorice (Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch) collected in different local populations by comparison in their content of glycyrrhizin and total flavones or pharmacology activity. Experiment of introduction and cultivation at the same place was also performed to evaluate the effects of gene or ecological factors on formation or accumulation of glycyrrhizin and total flavones. The main results were shown as following:1. Comparison in content of glycyrrhizin and total flavones of wild G. uralensis Fisch from 5 local populations. Sample with highest content of glycyrrhizin was root collected from Yanchi, that with highest content of total flavones was leaves from Jinta population. As far as root was concerned, sample with highest content of total flavones was collected from Yanchi. There were significant differences in content of glycyrrhizin and total flavones among spatial populations.2. The genotype and the environment all will be effect the geniture and accumulate of licorice root. after cultivated in same place, the content of licorice root has abvious changed. The largest content of total flavones in root is Aertai species. Althought the largest content of glycyrrhizin still is Ningxia species. But others has big change. So, carry out good breed breeding of G. uralensis , especially to pick out the local organism which can adapt local ecological condition to be very necessary. The allogeneity of ecologic factor of different place may be the main reason to cause the down of quality of cultured G. uralensis in different place.3. Comparison in quality characteristics of the licoric roots from the 5 populations in terms of pharmacological activity. The licorice root could effectively suppress proliferation of people's breast tumor cell, and apoptosis inducing of tumor cell was one of the main factors of proliferatiom suppressing, but the total flavones in leaves of G. uralensis could not restrain the proliferation of tumor cell Bcap-37 effectively. There was no active correlationship between the content of glycyrrhizin or total flavones and pharmacological activity.
