Pistasia chinensis Bunge is one of the most important tree species for forestry biomass energy resources, it is originally produced and widely distributed in China. In order to explore the biological and oil characteristics of the seed from different provenances and the seed quality, anatomical observation and oil quality analysis of different superior individuals of Pistacia chinensis Bunge were studied respectively. The seeds were from Taihang Mountains to the Qinling Mountains, and the areas of Henan, Hebei, Shanxi, Anhui, Beijing, Yunnan, Sichuan and Fujian. The results by analysis of variance showed that samples for the 100-seed weight is between 3.35g and 5.13g, Oil content in seed is between 20% and 30%, Unsaturated fatty acid content is between 86.41% and 88.33%。The fatty acid composition of Pistasia chinensis Bunge seed is similar to the molecular composition of the ideal alternative diesel. It is concluded that Pistasia chinensis Bunge is the ideal species for the development of bio-diesel in China. This study will be evaluated and identified of the existing fine Pistasia chinensis Bunge species which were undertaken a preliminary screening, also it will provide information and reference for the evaluation system which would be established for the more characters comprehensive indicators of Pistasia chinensis Bunge resources in future.
