The responses towards drought stress of different provenances of Pistacia chinensis Bunge was studied basis on the morphological features, physiological and biochemical reactions and cell ultrastructure by using potted and hydroponic drought stress method. A comprehensive evaluation on drought resistance of Pistacia chinensis Bunge from seven provenances was also carried out. The main conclusions are as follows:1. with the increase of drought stress, net photosynthetic rate(Pn),stomatal conductance(Cond) and transpiration rate(Tr)of each provenance decreases, the chlorophyll content decreases . Cell membrane permeability increases.2. With the increase of drought stress, predawn leaf decreases, water saturation deficiency and natural water requirement increases.3. Research on potted and hydroponic drought stress shows that with the increase of drought stress and the processing time, MDA content, Soluble sugar content, proline content increases, while SOD,POD activity increases first and then decreases, soluble protein content decreases.4. Observation of the ultrastructure shows that the influences of membrane structure on the provenance of sichuan and anhui are relatively small while the influences on the provenance of Jiangsu,Hebei, Henan are slightly larger.5. There are three grades of drought resistance of Pistacia chinensis Bunge from seven provenances. The decreasing order of drought resistance is as follows: The provenances of Sichuan, Yunnan,Henan >The provenances of Jiangxi, Anhui>The provenances of Jiangsu, Hebei.
