The seeds and one-year-old seedling of different provenances and individuals were studied as subjects to study the geographical variance of seed quality,seed oil quality,growth characteristics,photosynthesis rate,nitrate reductase,soluble protein concentration and so on.The main results were as follows:1.There were significant difference in seed qualities among all provenances of Pistacia chinensis Bunge.Southwest-northeast and southeast-northwest variation existed in 1000-seed weight.Variation also existed between west and east in seed length and width,southwest-northeast variation existed in seed germination rate. There were no significant correlation between geography-climatic factors and organ nutrient substances.2.The oil Physical-chemical indicators,such as iodine value,linolenic acid content and fatty acid methyl ester of the carbon chain length were in line with the standard bio-diesel.In oil-producing content of fruit,pulp and kernels,the south area was higher than the north area,the western area was higher than the eastern area. The unsaturated fatty acid content was higher in the north area and in the plateau area.P.chinensis was considered as a good raw material in bio-diesel production for the high content and good quality of its oil.3.The growth rhythm appeared as the obvious S-growth curve.The seasonal changes of net photosynthetic rate were similar for 10 provenances of P.chinensis. The diurnal changes of net photosynthetic rate were obvious difference for 10 provenances of P.chinensis:three provenances(Baoding of Hebei,Shilin of Yunnan and Panzhihua of Sicuan)presented a double-peak curve and showed obvious midday depression.The controlling factor of photosynthetic rate was stomatic limitation in two provenances(Baoding of Hebei and Shilin of Yunnan),but non-stomatic limitation in Panzhihua of Sicuan.Other 7 provenances presented a single-peak curve.5.Latitude,longitude and elevation not only had a direct impaction on the growth of Pistacia chinensis Bunge,but also affected their seedlings growth throμgh chlorophyll content,photosynthetic rate and other physiological indicators.The growth characteristics of one-year-old seedlings were comprehensive evaluated by factor analysis and the superior provenances of Pengze in Jiangxi were selected.The provenances of Nanjing in Jiangsu and Baoding in Hebei took second place,which could be cultivated mainly as the superior provenances.
