This study took Gansu Province as the research objects,using the second national soil survey information and soil survey information of Gansu Province,under the support of Mapinfo 7.0, VB 6.0, SQL server 2000 and other softwares,combined Flexcell Active 5.3.1 and OLE database developing mode to conduct the systematic design of the database. Established Gansu Province soil resources management information system by a large-scale (1:50,000). The study digitizing the related graphic information such as gradient maps, texture maps, pH levels distribution maps, soil types, soil organic matter, N, P, K, Fe, Cu, Mu, Zn and other nutrients map, the land-using map. Through computer processing, gengrated vectorization digital map for GIS which could be displayed, amended, marked, roamed, calculated, managed and printed. The study also designed the corresponding database, produced a complete GIS spatial data source. Then developed the Gansu Province soil resources information management system by applying VB 6.0, SQL server 2000 and Flexcell Active 5.3.1.Soil resources information management system setted management in one, through the code link between them, and provided a powerful inquiry, editing and management functions including graphical and attribute data management, information, thematic map creation, spatial information, attribute information retrieval map, checking each other and sampling points editorial management functions. This system achieved the data inquiring, editing, importing and exporting capabilities from map of table, from table to map and from table to table. This system also provided soil map, PH scale distibution map etc. 14 thematic maps as well as some basic geography informations by 1:250,000 scale such as township grade habition, road, river, mountain and county grade administrative boundary.In the soil resources thematic map operation and management, with the background of basis geography information, adopting map layer dynamic loading function could loading thematic map whenever.The establishment of the system was not only help the soil resources survey and management in Gansu Province, but also provide technical support for the future of dynamic soil monitoring, environmental monitoring, nutrient management.Meanwhile, it was significancant to digital management for the future of soil testing in Gansu Province, Which could be outputed in the form of chart combining expert knowledge. In addition, it was also a practical guide to the region's arable land fertility evaluation, soil nutrients, temporal and spatial variation.meanwhile, the system provided soil scientific basis for the regional planning in Gansu.
