The experiment was carried out to investigate the composition of five kinds of soilless media by different proportion of fermented corn straw, corn cob, rice husk, mushroom residue and wheat husk to cultivation ornamental pepper in plug seedling and growth period cultivation in plastic tunnel to find the suitable formula to cultivation ornamental pepper. The main results were obtained as follows:(1) The four substrates (M1( corn straw : corn cob : rice husk= 4:4:2), M2( corn cob : rice husk : mushroom resedue = 4:3:3), M3 (rice husk: wheat husk: rice husk = 5:3:2)and M4 ( corn straw : corn cob = 6:4)) mixed by different proportion of corn straw, corn cob, rice husk, mushroom residue and wheat husk as main media to seedling pepper in cell pan. The mixed media V peat : V perlite : V vermiculite =4:1:1 was treated as control, which is widely used all over china. The physicochemical properties of four substrates were in reasonable range. Results showed seedling pepper in M1 had higher emerge-rate, survival-rate, plant highth, stem diameter, seedling index and dry matter accumulation than CK. It can instead of peat and become new type of pepper plug seedling substrates.(2) Ornamental pepper growth substrates were mixed by different proportion of corn straw, corn cob, rice husk, mushroom residue and wheat husk as main media (C1 (corn straw: wheat husk: mushroom residue= 5:2:3), C2 (corn straw: rice husk: mushroom residue= 3:4:3), C3 ( rice husk: wheat husk: mushroom residue= 2:3:5), C4 (corn straw: wheat husk: mushroom residue= 2:5:3) and C5 (corn cob: rice husk: mushroom residue= 3:4:3)) , took V peat: V perlite =2:1 as control.①The physicochemical of five different substrates were in reasonable scope and could meet need of ornamental pepper. After plant the pH value and EC value were increased in various ranges.②the result of plant growth period showed that morphological index of pepper plant in C2 include plant height, stem diameter, plant width, ect were better than CK.③Available nutrient changed in various range in growth period of ornamental pepper. The content of available P decreased at first two mouths, in may it decreased at lowest lever, then showed slightly increase from June to august. Different substrates reached the peak during July and august. After august, is showed decreased again till uproot. The content of available N decreased at first, increased following, decreased again in the last period of growth stage. The content of available N is highest in CK. The content of available K showed decreased during whole period of crop field setting. At first five month from march to July, downward trend is very fast, then became slower during July to November. The content of available K is lowest in CK and it has the lower speed in available K decreased decline than other treatments. Different organs had different nutrient absorption at uproot. Root and fruit had better ability in absorbing available P than stem and leaf. The content of available N is highest in stem, the following are fruit, root and leaf. The content of available K is highest in leaf, the following is fruit, then root and the last one is stem. The content of available N, P, K is significant difference in various organs of ornamental pepper.④Different substrate formulas had great effects on the yield. Average of fruit weight and single plant yield of C2 are higher than other treatment even CK. Average of fruit weight of CK is only lower than C2 but higher than others. Single plant yield of C1 and C5 is lower than C2 but higher than CK. In total yield, C1 and C2 are both higher than CK. In full fruit period, C2 had the largest fruit and fastest fruit developmental-rate.⑤Fruit quality has changed in different growth stage. C1 had highest content of soluble reducing sugar, organic acid and soluble protein in first fruit stage, soluble reducing sugar and vitamin C in end fruit period. C2 had highest content of soluble total sugar in first fruit stage, vitamin C in full fruit period, soluble solids in end fruit period. C3 had highest content of soluble protein and soluble solids in first fruit stage, soluble reducing sugar, soluble solids and soluble total sugar in full fruit period. C4 had highest soluble total sugar and soluble protein in end fruit period. C5 had highest soluble reducing sugar in first fruit stage. CK had highest vitamin C in first fruit stage, soluble total sugar in full fruit period. Sugar acid ratio is very important index to identify fruit taste. The fruit with high Sugar acid ratio has better taste. The Sugar acid ratio of CK is the highest. It had significant difference with other treatments.In one word, plug seedling experiment showed pepper plant in M1 had higher emerge-rate, survival-rate, plant highth, stem diameter, seedling index and dry matter accumulation than CK. It can instead of peat and become new type of pepper plug seedling substrates. Ornamental pepper contivation experiment showed that C2 were better in plant height, stem diameter, plant width, fruit yield, fruit number than CK. It could be a new type of ormamental pepper cultivation substrates instead of peat.
