Flue-cured tobacco samples (including B2F, C3F, X2F) of the year 2007 and 2008 from Sichuan province were used as materials. Thus the appearance quality, chemical components, and sensory quality of flue-cured tobacco were analyzed. Relationships between the indicators of appearance quality, chemical components, and sensory quality of flue-cured tobacco were studied. Similarities analysis of appearance quality and chemical components between the flue-cured tobaccos from Sichuan province and Zimbabwe were conducted. Comparisons of tobacco quality differences between 6 big tobacco producing areas of Sichuan province were also carried out. Comprehensive analysis on tobacco quality of Sichuan province, tobacco producing areas and the 21 tobacco producing places were studied as well. The results were as following:1. Tobacco appearance qualities of Sichuan province were lemon and orange, firm, and oily. Maturity of three parts were all ripe, body of the three parts were: upper leaf fleshy, middle leaf medium, and lower leaf less thin. Color intensity of three parts were: upper and middle leaf strong, lower leaf strong or moderate.Contents of K and Cl and K-Cl ratio of three parts were all in proper spectrum; but total sugar, reducing sugar, and total sugar-reducing sugar difference were high. Contents of total plant alkaloid and total nitrogen, sugar-nicotine ratio, and nitrogen-nicotine ratio of upper leaf were high, while those of middle leaf were all suitable. However, as for lower leaf, total nitrogen content, sugar-nicotine ratio, and nitrogen-nicotine ratio were suitable, but content of total plant was lower.Performances of sensory quality were as following: Both upper and middle leaves had slightly better and over aroma quality, fair and over aroma amount, slightly comfortable and clean aftertaste, strong sweetness and little offensive odor. Conclusively, upper and middle leaves can be used as main ingredients of cigarette. While lower leaf had slightly better and below aroma quality, fair and below aroma amount, slightly comfortable and clean aftertaste, moderate and over sweetness, but little offensive odor and little throat irritation. It can be used as second main ingredients of cigarette. 2. Methods of correlation and stepwise regression analysis, grey relational grade analysis, and typical correlation analysis were used to analyze the relationships between evaluating indicators of flue-cured tobacco from Sichuan province. Results showed that: (1) Relationship between appearance quality and chemical components of flue-cured tobacco was mainly decided by factors as maturity, body, oil, leaf structure from appearance quality and total sugar, reducing sugar, total nitrogen, total plant alkaloid, sugar-nicotine ratio, nitrogen-nicotine ratio from chemical components. (2) The relationship between tobacco appearance quality and sensory quality was that aroma quality and aroma amount were influenced by leaf oil, while sweetness was affected by leaf structure, body, and color intensity. (3) Analysis results of the relationship between tobacco chemical components and sensory quality showed that determinants of tobacco aroma quality and aroma amount were total plant alkaloid, total nitrogen, nitrogen-nicotine ratio and sugar-nicotine; determinants of sweetness, offensive odor, aroma quality, and aftertaste were total sugar, reducing sugar, sugar-nicotine ratio and total nitrogen; and determinants of irritation was Cl content.3. Comparison analysis results of appearance quality and chemical components between flue-cured tobaccos from Sichuan province and Zimbabwe showed that: (1) Scores of middle leaf oil and color intensity of tobacco from Sichuan province were higher than those of Zimbabwe tobacco, but scores of the other indicators were all lower than those of Zimbabwe tobacco. The tobacco producing places whose appearance quality of upper leaf resembled that of Zimbabwe the most were Puge county, Mianning county, Yanyuan county, Dechang county and Xuyong county in turn. The tobacco producing places whose middle leaf resembled that of Zimbabwe the most were Mianning county, Renhe district, Yuexi county, Puge county, and Dechang county in turn. And the places whose lower leaf resembled that of Zimbabwe the most were Mianning county, Yanyuan county, Yanbian county, Yuexi county, and Dechang county and Renhe district in turn. (2) Contents of total sugar, total plant alkaloid, total nitrogen and sugar-nicotine ratio, nitrogen-nicotine ratio and K-Cl ratio in upper tobacco leaves from Sichuan province were higher than those of Zimbabwe tobacco. Contents of total sugar, reducing sugar, sugar-nicotine ratio, nitrogen-nicotine ratio and K-Cl ratio in middle tobacco leaves from Sichuan province were higher than those of Zimbabwe tobacco. But the other chemical components in upper and middle leaves were lower than those of Zimbabwe tobacco. The tobacco producing places whose chemical components of upper leaf resembled that of Zimbabwe tobacco the most in turn were Renhe district, Gulan county, Yuanba district, Mianning county and Wangchang county. And the tobacco producing places whose chemical components of middle leaf resembled that of Zimbabwe tobacco the most in turn were Xuyong county, Da county, Gulan county, Gong county and Pingshan county.4. Sichuan tobacco quality was comprehensively evaluated by using quantitative method combining fuzzy Mathematics membership function method, and Comprehensive Index Method. The results indicated that: (1)The score of appearance quality index was highest for the middle leaves; the lower part scored secondly and the upper part scored lowest. (2) Chemical components usability index of the upper part scored highest; the middle leaves scored secondly and the lower part scored lowest. (3) Tobacco quality comprehension index of the middle leaves scored highest; the upper part scored secondly and the lower part scored lowest.5. The regional characteristics of flue-cured tobacco leafs in Sichuan were analyzed by using the two-step cluster method., the result showed that: (1) On the basis of middle leaves, the appearance quality in Sichuan province can be divided into two types of flue-cured tobacco, the importance order of appearance quality of typeâ… is: maturity> identity> Oils>Leaf structure> Color> Chrom; the importance order of appearance quality of typeâ…¡is: Color>identity> maturity>Oils>Chrom>Leaf structure. (2) On the basis of middle leaves, the Chemical components in Sichuan province can be divided into two types of flue-cured tobacco, the importance order of Chemical components of typeâ… is: reducing sugar> total sugar> the ratio of total sugar to nicotine> total alkaloids>chlorine >total nitrogen; the importance order of Chemical components of typeâ…¡is: the ratio of total sugar to nicotine> total sugar> reducing sugar> K-C1 ratio> total alkaloids> total nitrogen.(3) On the basis of middle leaves, the sensory quality in Sichuan province can be divided into two types of flue-cured tobacco, the importance order of sensory quality of typeâ… is: aftertaste>offensive odor>quality of aroma>irritation> sweetness>volume of aroma; the importance order of sensory quality of typeâ…¡is: sweetness> aftertaste> quality of aroma> offensive odor> irritation> volume of aroma.
