Objective: To investigate the correlation of p21WAF1/CIP1, p27KIP1 expressions with the carcinogenesis, clinical pathological characteristics and prognosis in HCC, as well as the clinical application of p21WAF1/CIP1, p27KIP1 expressions for diagnosis, prognosis assessment in HCC.Methods: specimens of 10 normal liver tissue, 10 hepatic cirrhosis and 40 HCC were examined by immunohistochemistry (IHC) to show the expressions of P21WAF1/CIP1 and p27KIP1 ; the results were analyzed statistically. Results: 1. The p21WAF1/CIP1 expression was significantly lower in NLT and HC than that in HCC(p<0.05). The p27KIP1 expression was higher in NLT and HC than that in HCC,but no statistic significance(p>0.05). 2: The expressions of both P21WAF1/CIP1 and p27KIP1 were significantly lower in poorly-differentiated HCC than that in moderated- and well-differentiated HCC(p<0.05). The expressions of P21WAF1/CIP1and p27KIP1 in HCC group SHowed no correlation withgender, age, metastasis or clinical stage. There was also no significant difference in survial rate between positive expression groups of p21WAF1/CIP1, p27KIP1 and negative expression groups. Conclusions: 1: The expressions of both p21WAF1/CIP1 and p27KIP1were significantly lower in poorly-differentiated HCC than that in moderated- and well-differentiated HCC, indicating it's usage of detecting the malignancy degree of HCC.2. The expressions of p21WAF1/CIP1, p27KIP1 in HCC group showed no correlation with metastasis, clinical stage or survial rate, indicating detection of p2lWAF1/CIP1 and p27KIP1 may be of no value in the prognosis assessment of HCC. 3. Though in the same family, the expressions of p21WAF1/CIP1, p27KIP1 are more possibly regulated by different systems.
