Objective To study the association of expression of COX-2 ,c-erbB-2 ,nm23-H1 , PCNA with the prognosis of cervical cancer. Methods Immunohistochemical assay was used to detect the expression of COX-2 , c-erbB-2,nm23-H1 and PCNA in all specimens, including 52 cervical cancers and 30 normal cervices. Results (1) It was the expression of nm23-H1 and PCNA, not COX-2 andc-erbB-2 .that were related to lymph node metastasis(P<0.05).The latter was positively correlated with lymph node metastasis while the former was negatively. (2) The expression of COX-2 and PCNA was more frequently detected in recurrent tumors(P<0.05),while the expression of c-erbB-2 andnm23-H1 were not related to recurrence(P>0.05). (3) The expression of COX-2 and PCNA wasnegatively related to the prognosis in cervical carcinoma, with the expression of nm23-H1 being positively. The c-erbB-2 expression had no relationship with survival .The multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression modal indicated that lymph node metastasis, the expression of COX-2 and nm23-H1 have influenced on prognosis. Conclusion COX-2,nm23-H1,and PCNA may be useful independent prognostic factors in squamous cell uterine cervical carcinoma. The patients with COX-2(+)/nm23-H1(-) are at higher risk of poor prognosis. c-erbB-2 is of no prognostic significance in squamous cell uterine cervical carcinoma.
