Objective: Towards the skull needling effecting to the serum vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and the improvement of clinical neural function on acute cerebral infarction patients.Method: 20 cases were treated with the skull slot needling combined with medicines, in contrast with other 20 cases treated with the standard scale needling combined with medicines, and another 20 cases with routine medicines only. The variety of serum VEGF and the scores in clinical neural function were surreyed. Results: (1) Compared with normal level, serum VEGF level in acute CI patients increased. (2) In the routine medicine group , the significant decrease of the scores in clinical neural function (P<0. 05) was observed, and in the skull slot needling group the significant decrease of the scores in clinical neural function (P<0. 01) was observed. There was no significant change of serum VEGF in the routine medicines group (P>0. 05) , but there was a significant increase in the skull slot needling group (P<0. 05) ; Serum VEGF and the scores in clinical neural function in skull slot needling group changed much more significantly than that in medicine treating group (P<0. 05). (3) In both the skull slot needling group and the standard scale needling group, the significant decrease of the scores in clinical neural function was observed. There was not significantchanges of serum VEGF in the standard scale needling group (P>0. 05) , but therewas a noticeable increase of serum VEGF in the skull slot needling group (P<0. 05) ; Serum VEGF and the scores in clinical neural function between in skull slot needling group and in standard scale needling group didn' t change significantly (P>0. 05). (4) Serum VEGF concentration was positively middle correlated with the scores of clinical neural function before the treatment; Serum VEGF concentration was negatively middle correlated with the scores of clinical neural function after the treatment. Conclusions: (1) It is suggested that there were hyperplasia of endothelium cells and facilitation of blood vessel regeneration in CI patients in early stage. (2) Both the skull slot needling and medicine treatment can obviously improve the scores in clinical neural function; The therapeutic effect in skull slot needling combined with medicine treating group was superior to that in medicine treatment group. (3) Both the skull slot needling and the standard scale needling treatment can obviously improve the scores in clinical neural function, also can prompt the upbliuding or opening of side circulation in brain tissue and new blood vessel regeneration ; The therapeutic effect in skull slot needling combined with medicine treatment group was not significantly different from that in standard scale needling combined with medicine treatment group, there was no statistical meanful in these groups . (4)The concentration of serum VEGF was likely related to acute CI and can reflect the degree of brain impairment in acute CI patients.
