Objective: To investigate the dynamic changes of the soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1) and the soluble E-selectin(sE-selectin) in acute cerebral infarction(ACI) and its clinical significance, and to further observe the influence of polysaccharide sulfate(PSS) on the levels of serum sICAM-1 and sE-selectin and the clinical therapeutic effect of PSS on the patients. Methods: 100 cases of ACI were randomly divided into two groups, PSS group(50 cases) and routine medicine group (50 cases). The levels of serum sICAM-1 and sE-selectin of all the ACI patients were measured using two-layer antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immuno-sorbent assay (ELISA) on the 1st day (before treatment),3rd day,5th day, 10th day after onset respectively;anther 30 healthy subjects were as control group. Results: The levels of serum sICAM-1 and serum sICAM-1 in ACI group on the 1st day after onset were significantly higher than those in the controls(320.83 ± 55.34 vs 205.45 ± 42.46 ng/ml, 15.40 ± 5.04 vs 10.15 ± 3.67ug/ml; P<0.01). The levels of serum sICAM-1 and sE-selectin in the patients with large volume of cerebral infarction were increased significantly compared with those in patients with medium(387.41 ± 35.58 vs 332.32 ± 30.95 ng/ml, 21.61 ± 5.19 vs 16.60 ± 3.46 ug/ml; p<0.01) or small volume cerebral infarction(387.41 ± 35.58 vs 279.13 ±44.2ng/ml, 21.61 ±5.19 vs 11.96 ±3.04μg/ml; p<0.01). ACI patients with diabetes, hyperlipoidemia, hypertension had higher levels of serum sICAM-1 and sE-selectin than those without the above risk factors respectively (p<0.01 ) . In the routine medicine group, the levels of serum sICAM-1 and sE-selectin on the 1st day after onset (317.74 ±44.26ng/ml, 15.91 ±5.48μg/ml) were elevated significantly in contrast to the control group, and the levels of serum sICAM-1 and sE-selectin reached the peak on the 3rd day after onset (512.69 ± 67.37ng/ml, 28.6 ± 7.49μg/ml), and the levels of serum sICAM-1 and sE-selectin were decreased significantly on the 5th day (441.24 ±64.11 ng/ml, 17.55 ± 3.83 μg/ml) and...
