The berries of Sea buckthorn have a long history of application in Tibetan and Mongolian medicines and are also an ingredient for traditional Chinese medicines found in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. It is derived from the fruits of Hippophae rhamnoides. In this paper, the raw resource of Hippophae on west Sichuan plateau is researched. Hippophae rhamnoides subsp. sinensis Rousi., H. rhamnoides subsp. yunnanensis Rousi., H. rhamnoides subsp. wolongensis Lian, K.Sun et X. L. Chen., H. neurocarpa S. W. Liu et T. N. He, and H. tibetana Schlecht. are reported, including living environments, producing areas, botanical origins, external structures and microscopic characters.HPLC is applied to determine total flavonoids contents in sea buckthorn of different species and different collecting times. The result indicates that the content of total flavonoids reduces as berries get mature, and the total flavoids content of H. rhamnoides subsp. yunnanensis Rousi. is higher than H. rhamnoides subsp. sinensis Rousi. and H. rhamnoides subsp. wolongensis Lian, K.Sun et X. L. Chen.HPLC/UV is used for the first time to establish the finger print spectrum for H. rhamnoides subsp. sinensis Rousi., and we attempt to apply this kind of technique to phytochemo-taxonomy of Hippophae Linn..Through low-pressure LC, centrifugal TLC and spectroscopic determination etc., ten compounds were isolated from berries of//, rhamnoides snbsp. sinensis Rousi., The structures of these compounds were elucidated by spectral analysis. The structures of seven compounds were identified as Benzoic Acid(l), l-(4-Hydroxy-phenyl) -propan-l-one(3), Isorhamnetin-3-0 -@-D- glucoside(5), Rutin(6), Quercetin(8), Isorhamnetin(9) and jS-sitosterol-3-O-/5-D-glucoside(10).
