Pharmacognostic Study Of Caulis Clematidis Armandii

According to Pharmacopoeia of People's Republic of China (2005 edition, volume I), Armand Clematis Stem is the dried lianoid stem of Clematis armandii Franch. or Clematis montana Buch.-Ham. (Fam. Ranunculaceae). It is mainly used to remove heat and induce diuresis, to stimulate menstrual discharge, and promote lactation and applied in curing edema, stranguria oliguria, arthralgia amenorrhea, lack of lacation, etc.In this project, we have conducted texture research on Armand Clematis Stem and relevant researches on its geographical distribution, plant morphology, shapes, properties, microstructures, etc. As for those plants such as Caulis Manshurian Aristolochia and Caulis Akebia, which are similar with Caulis Clematidis Armandii and thus can easily cause confusion, we have conducted identification of original plant, properties, microscopic identification as well as physical and chemical identification so as to ensure appropriate and secure use of Caulis Clematidis Armandii.Innovative experiments have been conducted to measure the oleanolic acid content in the hydrolyzed Caulis Clematidis Armandii by HPLC method, whose results show that there is big individual difference in terms of oleanolic acid content in different samples. Therefore, the concept of measurement uncertainty has been introduced in the quality assessment and of standard setting of traditional Chinese medicinal materials. Since inhomogeneity of individual sample bears great influence on measurement uncertainty, strict control has to be imposed on the homogeneity and representativity of samples.First experiments have been carried out to examine the extracts of Caulis Clematidis Armandii in water and in 70% ethanol, which brings new quality assessment parameters of Caulis Clematidis Armandii.
