Objective: To explore the effect of Modified Sijunzitang for the treat-ment of patients with perennial allergic rhinitis through application of patients withallergic rhinitis of deficiency of the spleen-qi based on the treatment of ModifiedSijun- zitang & Cetirizine Hydrochloride compared with Cetirizine Hydrochloride.Materials and Methods: 60 perennial allergic rhinitis patients of deficiency ofthe spleen-qi, were randomly divided into two groups, the treatment group (ModifiedSijunzitang& Cetirizine Hydrochloride, 30) and the control group of Western medi-cine(Cetirizine Hydrochloride, 30); another healthy control group of 30 patients. Thetreatment group and the control group of western medicine were both treated for 30days, then to observe the effect of the two groups before and after treatment, and alsoto observe the change of serum IL-4. IL-12 and IFN-γ. Enzyme-linked immun-osorbent assay (ELISA)measured before and after treatment of patients with allergicrhinitis fasting venous blood IL-4, IL-12 and IFN-γlevels.Results:(1) The effect of the treatment group were 23.3%, 63.3%efficient,the controlgroup of Western medicine were 6.7%,56.7%efficiency, the treatment group is betterthan the control group of Western medicine, there was a significant difference (P<0.05).(2) Both the treatment group and the control group of Western medicine, theserum IL-4 was significantly higher, IFN-γ, IL-12 were significantly lower, comparedwith the healthy control group. There were a significant difference (P<0.01);(3) To the treatment group and the control group of Western medicine, serumIL-4, IFN-γwere both increased, but the degree of the treatment group was higher thanthe control group of Western medicine. There was a significant difference (P<0.01);To the treatment group, serum IL-12 was increased significantly after treated. There was a significant difference between before and after treatment (P<0.01). But to thecontrol group of Western medicine, there was no significant difference (P>0.10).Conclusions:1. The treatment group is superior to the control group of Western medicine inimproving the effective rate of clinical symptom of the perennial allergic rhinitispatients of deficiency of the spleen-qi.2. To the perennial allergic rhinitis patients of deficiency of the spleen-qi, serumIL-4 was significantly higher than in healthy control group; serum IFN-γ, IL-12 wassigni- ficantly lower than the healthy control group.3. To the treatment group and the control group of Western medicine, decreasedserum IL-4, IFN-γwere both increased after treatment, but the treatment group issuperior to the control group of Western medicine. To the treatment group, serumIL-12 was Significantly increased after treatment, but to the control group of westernmedicine, there was no significant change in serum IL-12.
