Objective:To observe the curative effect and safety of treatment of primary dysmenorrhea of cold-damp stagnated type using the analgesic plaster of compound of Rhizoma arisaematis,in order to provide clinical evidence for its generalization and application.methods:79 patients aged between 15 to 35 who visited out-patient department of Guangzhou hospital of traditional Chinese medicine from March,2008 to March,2009 were involved. All the patients whose syndrome met the diagnostic criteria of both Primary Dysmenorrheal of Western medicine and congealing cold and blood stasis of traditional Chinese medicine were divided into treatment group and control group randomly. The treatment group included 40 patients who used the analgesic plaster of compound of Rhizoma arisaematis by sticking to the Navel, and the control group included 39 patients who took Xiaojinwan. There were no significant statistical difference between the two groups in age, course, degree and syndrome,so they were comparable.Scores were given to every patient according to criteria of symptoms score and painful grade of dysmenorrhea. The patients in the treatment group began to use Nanxing at three or four days before menstruation by sticking one piece to the Shenque point for 6 to 8 hours once every day,and stopped using after 5 days as one course of treatment. The second course began before next menstruation. The control group began to take two bottles of Xiaojinwan twice every day at three or four days before menstruation, and stopped taking after 7 days as one course of treatment. The second course began before next menstruation. The therapeutic effects of both groups were observed and recorded after three courses of treatment. The changes of painful grade, duration and menstrual period, amount, color, quality and other clinical symptoms were observed, and the safe index as blood routine, urine routine, hepatic function and renal function were detected simultaneously. The therapeutic effects were evaluated according to the assessment criteria of disease curative effect and syndrome curative effect of traditional Chinese medicine. All the measurement data in this study fit normal distribution, and were analyzed statistically by t-test after homogeneity test for.variance. Numeration data were analyzed by chi square test and ranked data by Ridit analysis.Results:1.In the treatment group,10 patients were cured,17 were significant effective,11 were effective, and 2 were ineffective. In the control group, 10 patients were cured,16 were significant effective,9 were effective, and 4 were ineffective. The effective power of the treatment group was 95.0%,higher than that of the control group,89.74%,but there were no significant statistical difference in effective power between the two groups(p>0.05).2.There were statistical difference(p<0.01)in the symptoms scores of traditional Chinese medicine in both two groups between pre-and post-treatment,which indicated that the symptoms were obviously improved after treatment. But there were no statistical significance in the symptoms scores of traditional Chinese medicine at inter-group,which revealed that the improvement of the symptoms scores of traditional Chinese medicine of the two groups were similar(p>0.05).3.Comparing the curative effect of pain of the two groups after treatment, the difference was no statistical significance(p>0.05),which indicated that the curative effect of the treatment group was close to that of the control group.4.Detection of the safe index:There were no obvious adverse effects found in the treatment group during the medication period.Blood routines, urine routines, hepatic and renal functions(ALT,BUN,Cr)were all normal before and after treatment. That initially manifested this medicine was safe and reliable, and had no toxical or side effects. Conclusion:The analgesic plaster of compound of Rhizoma arisaematis was effective in promoting blood circulation to arrest pain and driving cold and damp. The therapeutic effect of clinical treatment of primary dysmenorrhea using this medicine was significant, and no adverse effects were found.
