Objective:To observe the clinical effect of applying warm needling method in the treatment of chronic gastritis of the deficient syndrome. We hope to promote the method as a complementary protocol to the current mainstream treatment.Method:Sixty chronic gastritis patients from LongXing and MingShi Chinese Medical Clinics in Taiwan were all diagnosed using gastroscopy at the Gastrointestinal Out-patients Department of the Taoyuan Hospital and Rongmin Hospital. The diagnostic standards are according to"The National Symposium of Chronic Gastritis"held in 2000,and"The Diagnostic and Treatment Standards of Gastroscopy in Chronic Gastritis"cited in 2003.We randomly divided the patients into 2 groups of thirty patients:the treatment and control groups. The chosen acupoints in the treatment were zhongwan, zusanli, and neiguan.Warm needling method was applied in the treatment group, while the control group used the tonic thrusting-lifting needling application. The patients are treated 3 times per week;10 treatments per course.According to"The Guide to Clinical Study of Chinese Medicine and New Drugs"and"The Standards of Diagnostic,Syndrome Differentiation and Clinical Effect in Chronic Gastritis by Combined TCM and Mainstream Medicine",the clinical effect after 2 phases of treatment was recorded.Results:1.The treatment group had an effective rate of 40%and a total effective rate of 83.3%;those of the control group were 33.3%and 76.6%,respectively. After statistical analysis, the difference in effective rates was not significant(p>0.05).However,the total effective rate in the treatment group was significantly better than that of the control group with p<0.05.2.The symptoms in both groups improved, with the treatment group having a more significant improvement than the control group(p<0.01 and p<0.05, respectively). 3.The gastroscopy results after treatment in both groups were better than that of before treatment(p<0.05).However,the improvement seen in the treatment group was more significant than the control group(p<0.01 and p<0.05,respectively).
