Objective:To promote the comprehensive development and utilization of Glehnia littoralis, enlarge its available parts of the plant, ensure and stabilize the quality of the herb and perfect the quality standard of Glehnia littoralis, the essential oils in Glehnia littoralis were studied and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS) in this paper. No relevent reports could be seen in document. Methods:The essential oils in roots, leaves and fruits of the Glehnia littoralis were extracted by hydrodistillation. The chemical constituents of essential oils were separated and identified by GC-MS. The relative contents of each components was determined by the peak area normalization method. The components of the essential oil in Glehnia littoralis were compared from different areas, harvest periods, processing methods as well as growth years in this paper.Result:a)The major components of the essential oils in the roots of Glehnia littoralis were terpenoids, aldehydes, ketones and acids, while the main components in the leaves and fruits were terpenoids. Distinct qualitative and quantitative differences were observed in essential oils from different parts of the herb. b)Terpenoids are major components in the essential oils of one-year-old roots, leaves and two-year-old leaves while acids were for two-year-old roots. Along with growth years going, the contents of aldehydes, ketones and acids were increased, while terpenoids decreased. c)The major components of the essential oils in Radix Glehniae, which were treated by being dried under sunshine and scalded with boiling water then peeled respectively, were terpenoids, aldehydes and ketones. the species and the relative contents of terpenoids, aldehydes, ketones, aromatics and alcohols in the essential oils of the latter were decreased while acids increased d)Along with the harvest period of Glehnia littoralis being delayed, the species and the relative contents of ldehydes and ketones, aromatics, alcohols were increased. e) Terpenoids, aldehydes and ketones were the major components of the essential oils in Radix Glehniae from Laiyang, while terpenoids and acids were for Chifeng and Anguo respectively. Conclusion:The factors such as organ category, growth years, processing methods and areas, have the influence to chemical components of the essential oils in Glehnia littoralis. To ensure and stabilize the quality of the herb,we must control these factors.
