Correlation Of Personality In Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Patients And Their Parents

Objective:To explore the personality of the Obsessive-compulsive disorder(OCD)patients and their parents,and the correlation of personality in OCD patients and their parents.Methods:Thirty patients met with International classification of disease,tenth version(ICD-10)and China classification of mental disorders(CCMD-3)criteria for OCD were assessed with the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ) and Egma Minnen av Bardndosnauppforstran (EMBU).Their parents were assessed with Eysenck Personality Questionnaire.Then compared with the normal controls(n=30) and control parents(n=60).Results:(1)The neuroticism scores[(14.97±5.52) vs.(8.77±4.69)]and psychoticim scores[(6.70±2.61) vs.(4.83±2.30)]were significantly higher (Ps<0.01),and the extraversion scores [(11.23±4.87) vs.(14.20±3.55)]were significantly lower in OCD patients than in controls (P<0.01).(2)The neuroticism scores [(12.23±4.43)vs.(8.81±4.00)]were significantly higher (P<0.01),and the extraversion scores [(10.58±4.06)vs.(12.71±3.50)]were significantly lower in OCD patients'parents than in the parents of controls (P<0.01).(3)The neuroticism scores[(12.77±4.73)vs.(7.50±3.45)]were significantly higher(P<0.01),and the extraversion scores [(10.67±3.48)vs.(12.60±3.61)]were significantly lower in OCD patients'fathers than in the fathers of controls (P<0.05).(4)The psychoticim scores [(5.23±2.08)vs.(3.73±2.21)] were significantly higher (P<0.01),and the extraversion scores [(10.50±4.63) vs. (12.83±3.44)] were significantly lower in OCD patients'mothers than in the mothers of the controls (P<0.05).(5)The factor affect warmth scores of the father[(43.63±8.94) VS.(51.60±6.78)]and mother[(48.00±10.15)VS.(54.67±6.63)]scales of EMBU in OCD patients were significantly lower than that of control groups(p<0.05). The scores on factors such as punishment[(19.60±5.37)VS.(16.07±4.19)], refusal[(11.40±3.37)VS.(8.90±1.79)]and overprotection[(10.63±2.08)VS.(9.40±1.94)]of father(Ps<0.05)and the scores on factors such as punishment[(14.67±4.63)VS.(11.23±3.04)],refusal[(15.30±3.74)VS.(11.73±2.83)]and overprotection [(35.80±6.70)VS.(30.67±5.06)] of mother (Ps<0.05) of scale of EMBU in OCD patients were found significantly higher when compared to controls.(6) The extraversion scores in the OCD patients were positively correlated with that in the mothers (r=0.37,P<0.05),and negatively correlated with the psychoticim scores of the mothers(r=-0.37, P<0.05).The neuroticism scores in the OCD patients were positively correlated with the neuroticism scores in the fathers (r=0.39, P<0.05) and the psychoticim scores in the mothers (r=0.53, P<0.01).(7) The score of the psychoticim subscale of EPQ were related positively with the scores of the punishment (r=0.308, p<0.05), overprotection(r=0.347, p<0.05),over-interference (r=0.396, p<0.05) of the father and the overprotection(r=0.382, p<0.05), refusal(r=0.320, p<0.05) of mother of the OCD patients.Conclusion:The OCD patients and their parents have some peculiar personalities,the personality of the OCD patients are related to the personality of their parents.
