On the approval of State Council, the first Chinese-Foreign Joint Higher Education Programs have been set up in 1986. With the progressive wave of globalization and the promotion of international science and culture exchanges in the field of higher education in our country, Chinese-Foreign Joint Higher Education Programs have made great achievements. Since the 21st century, especially after China access to WTO, the programs are flourishing. The essence of Chinese-Foreign Joint Higher Education Programs is the introduction of foreign high quality educational resources of universities, including the introduction of foreign universities operation, teaching models, curriculum and teachers. If students want to totally accept and absorb the foreign high–quality educational resources of universities, the primary condition is that they should hold steady communication skills in foreign language.This paper is to develop and explore an eclectic method for Chinese college English teaching in the background of Chinese-Foreign Joint Higher Education Programs. Based on an analysis of traditional teaching approaches, such as the Audio lingual method, the situational language teaching, communicative method, the silent way, a conclusion is drawn that an eclectic method is suitable for Chinese students in co-operation programs. An eclectic method which combines the advantages of traditional teaching methods is explored and practiced in English teaching. An experiment of eclectic method was carried out. The effectiveness and feasibility of the eclectic method was tested. The paper is divided into six parts.Chapter one introduces the English teaching situation in the background of Chinese-Foreign Joint Higher Education Programs. They are emphasizing on the training goals and teaching features. And basic on overall the analysis, the paper points out: traditional English teaching method is not suitable to the students in the background of Chinese-Foreign Joint Higher Education Programs. Chapter two illustrates the characteristics of the traditional teaching method for English teaching prevalent in China. Chapter three discusses the theoretical bases and advantages of eclectic method, and figures out the improvement of the four skills(listening, speaking, reading, writing) with the help of eclectic method. Eclectic method is useful for students agree with the teaching method and theory of foreign language teachers in a short time. In Chapter four and five, through the analysis of questionnaires of one hundred students in the school of International Education in Nanchang Hangkong University, the results showed the eclecticism method is very helpful for the four skills of English. Finally, the conclusion summarizes the whole paper. Through the evident of the paper showed, it gives a theory reference and support to Chinese-Foreign Joint Higher Education Programs and numerous universities educational workers.
