For a long time,the nations vigorously encourages the development of higher vocational colleges,and introduces a series of related positive policies.For the development of higher vocational colleges,this is a good opportunity,and also a huge challenge.As higher vocational education workers,we need to seize the opportunity,challenge,and adopt corresponding strategies to adapt to the development of modern teaching needs.Only in this way we can ensure higher vocational education develop stably and rapidly.As an important branch in the development of higher vocational education,higher vocational English education is also faced with new opportunities and challenges.During the course of decades of development,the higher vocational English education has already formed an independent and stable education model.And at the same time,some incompatible contradictions and problems in the teaching are also increasingly highlighted.Since 2003,the ministry of education formulated and promulgated "ordinary high school English curriculum standard",we become more and more feel the urgency of higher vocational college English reform.Because of the cohesion and coherence of higher vocational college English teaching reform and the high school English curriculum standard,high school English teaching change will certainly affect college English teaching.So we must consider the factors of the implementation of the high school English curriculum reform due to the students,different English level,such as teaching class hour arrangement,teaching mode and so on.The degree of emphasis will also be changed.The college entrance examination reform poses a challenge to high school traditional English teaching,but also bring a great development opportunity to the higher vocational college English teaching.In addition,in order to meet the urgent demand of training higher technology applied talents,higher vocational colllege English reform is imperative.The general education workers must change ideas and take effective measures to implement the transformation of colleges and universities from the "scale" to "improve quality",further deepen the reform of education field.The development path of higher vocational English teaching reform are full of thorns,we have a long way to go.In the current situation,we need to get rid of the shortcomings of traditional English teaching,and come out a new way which not only can help students form and improve English application abilities according to their own capability foundation In the established public English teaching Settings,but also form their employment characteristics and advantages,and better play the functions of the English teaching in higher vocational education.The article adopts multiple research methods,makes an investigation and research about Wuhan Social Work Professional college students from class 12 to 16 for 4 years,as well as the corresponding English teachers,to fully understand students' learning and teachers teaching situation.Through the questionnaire and teacher interview and graduate students'feedback of English usage,higher vocational English teaching effectiveness is not ideal,difficult to achieve the desired effect;For many students,English knowledge which they have learned in the college can't meet the needs of work after graduation,quite a number of hotels and foreign professional graduates realize the importance of English to improve the working height when they step into the society.This article do the research from three directions:the student learning,teacher's teaching and school management,to study present situation of English teaching in vocational colleges,forming reason,higher vocational English education reform background,necessity and solutions.The author hopes that the college entrance examination English reform can drive the reform of higher vocational English and let the student realize the importance of learning English rationally,also let teachers "cut off"useless English courses boldly.Because only let the students choose to learn English independently,it can make English be a skill to better their employment competitiveness.
