The forerunner of modern poster design is France, well, the outbreak of World War II bring about great changes in the world's political and economic situation, the United States became the world overlord, the global development centers transferred from Europe to the United States, and the world's arts center transferred from Paris to New York too. Since then, poster design of the United States got into its stride and grew rapidly, causing every head to turn in admiration. The New York school, "pushpin" studio, hippie style, pop style, and other important genres of modern poster design birth one after another. They enriched the poster art area of the United States and the whole world, so that a long period of dictatorial rule under modernism and internationalism style came to an end, then a new situation arose.The modernist poster design genres had enabled the United States out of the shadow of European art, and began to lead the world trend. Finally, in 1980s, a new art movement broke out in the United States, known as "Postmodernism". Although this art movement was global and did not have a center, but the United States in which the influence could not be underestimated. San Francisco genre and "Retro" genre play a vital role in the development process of the world's poster design and became an important part of Post-modern design movement.In face of rapid development of U.S. poster, we cannot help being interested in its unique qualities. From obscurity to significant, a dramatic change took place, during which there must be a number of internal and external factors. One of the most important external factors was World War II. It made a lot of European artists immigrated to the United States. The migratory movements had not only brought to the United States the importance of the European modernist ideas and concepts, but also enriched the artistic talents reserves of the United States, which created a rare opportunity for U.S. poster. But this point alone was not comprehensive, for the achievement of U.S. poster was strongly connected to its own internal factors.U.S. poster design had extraordinary characteristics, which attracted the world's attention. Money outstanding features, such as strong utilitarian, realistic, popular and humor, which made U.S. poster shed its matchless light and artistic charm. After several years'development, U.S. poster art has established a very important position and formed a rule of the development of art which corresponding to itself. Through the area of poster design, we can not only understand the change and development of the United States' aesthetic orientation, but also feel the United States culture's details, connotation, construction and their national emotion.
