Female Image And Its Cultural Significance In Twentieth Century Chinese Poster

Poster is one of the most important part of graphic design. Its development is affected by the historical and cultural background, and it can also reflect the aesthetic psychology, consumer psychology, social values and ideological content of the age.Female image is widely used in poster design. In the twentieth century, from the element symbol to express style, from the formal language to the Semantic Connotation, the female image in poster has very special national and times characteristics. Through theoretical study, case analysis, investigation, and the analysis of multiple disciplines, the authors found that female images in the twentieth century poster developed from tradition to imitation, and then to self expression. It shows the advancement of women’s social status. Through fitting people’s appreciation of the beauty, showing the characteristics of things, meeting women’s consumption psychology etc., the female image in poster plays an important role in the promotional media. At the same time, as a carrier of the social ideology, the female image in posters affects the culture of era and social gender construction. At the same time, some female image has some problems such as spreading the idea of gender inequality and materialistic concept, which need further development.Through researching the development of the female image in posters during the20th century, analyzing the social background and cultural connotation, this research summarized the significance of female images in poster desgin, and some problems of the image at the same time. This research provides some new research results about this important phenomenon of Chinese design history.
