Adverb teaching is always one of the most difficult and important teaching points for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (TCFL).On account of the intangible meaning and complex pragmatic rules of the Chinese adverbs, the teaching method is not easy to be within teachers'grasp. For the overseas students who have no Chinese language consciousness, learning adverbs is especially an obstacle which is needed to be overcome. Both of the meaning understanding and the using rules are not easy for them. And it seems unbelievable to apply the adverbs flexibly. However, the context teaching, which sprang up recently, not only solves the problem well, but also provides the teachers and students an effective way to adverb teaching and learning. But designing the context is also an art with skills. So it is valuable and meaningful to carry out study of this subject.This paper tries to explore the area in the context teaching theory as the guide. By document retrieval, classroom observation and interviewing method, we found most of the teachers use context to teach Chinese adverbs. But the context designing level is so uneven that the teaching effect is not below expectation. Based on the research and deeply thinking, we put forward the basic principles of the adverb context designing. And then we further put forward the methods and skills for different leaning levels and different teaching segments in order to provide a useful reference for adverb teaching study and help for teaching practice.This paper is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is introduction which introduces the purpose, writing background of this paper and survey of the domestic and overseas context study for the second language teaching. In the second chapter, we found six problems of teaching Chinese adverb by means of classroom observations and interviews. In the third chapter, we put forward the basic principles of the context designing of adverb teaching, and the methods and skills for different leaning levels and different teaching segments. The last chapter is examples for context designing of adverb teaching.
