The study is based on the cohesion theory proposed by Halliday and Hasan in Cohesion in English (1976) to analyze the translation of Maritime Law. The corpus selected is three samples of Maritime Law from A Collection of International Maritime Law: English Maritime Law, American Maritime Law and Southern Africa Maritime Law. The relative materials about Maritime Law are incorporated in the thesis. In view of the limited length of the thesis, only the first 2,000 words of each sample are chosen. The author probes into the English-Chinese translation of Maritime Law from the perspective of the five cohesive devices respectively: reference, substitution, ellipsis, conjunction and lexical cohesion. In the studying process, examples from the three samples are listed to support the author's views and analyses are made after each example. By applying cohesion theory, the thesis shows the special features of cohesive devices in Maritime Law and the special translation methods. At last, some suggestions are put forward, which are hoped to make some contribution to Maritime Law translation.
