With the increasing promotion of Chinese language and the high frequency of international communication between universities, short-term Chinese training courses in China are developing rapidly as well. Although fruitful results exist, those courses still have several problems, such as the level of placement, the mobility of teaching staff, the lack of normative and practical teaching content, etc. Significantly, these problems have restricted the development of short-term Chinese training courses in the future.In this thesis, the author will think the specificities and limitations of those courses within teaching experience for more than six months and use literature research, teaching experiments and investigative interviews to explore the necessity and possibility of applying the whole language approach. This thesis is based on in-depth understanding of the whole language approach and innovation methods, explores that approach's training demonstration and focuses on the principles and practical methods in the teaching of short-term Chinese training course. This thesis also emphasis the short-term Chinese training courses should be learner-centered, and carried learner to practical communicative language teaching firstly. Moreover, this thesis also has done some exploring and forward-looking on how to divide classes reasonably, how to determine the size of class, how to organize the targeted teaching materials, how to improve the interactive effect of teaching in the classroom, and how to strengthen awareness of the relevant role of teachers. The author hopes that the focus on this thesis will promote Chinese international education with academic and operational referencing values.
