Teaching materials construction have played a crucial role in various disciplines development, the development of teaching Chinese as foreign language is no exception, it is important to the whole teaching system and the quality of Chinese teaching materials affect the quality of the whole teaching.Therefore, it is absolutely significant to strengthening the construction of academic theory and teaching practice for the studying of teaching materials and improving its writing quality.As the teaching material used in primary stage and being the main curriculum,the writing quality of it is more essential. By the comparison between New Practical Chinese Reader and Boya Chinese in contents of texts, new words, grammatical points and exercises, this paper will analyze the specific similarities, differences and deficiencies on the two sets of teaching materials. And I will propose the corresponding suggestions to promote the materials'compiling quality and the theory. Except the introduction and epilogue, this paper includes four parts as follows:With respect to the contents of the textbooks,this paper will describe the status of the genre and theme of the two sets of textbooks,analyze the advantages and disadvantages between them,and I will propose some recommendations to the inadequacy.In the new words of the comparative analysis, the paper compares two sets of teaching materials by controlling the amount of new words and grade distribution, the arrangement of words and the words'explanation.Then it analyzes the gains and losses in the aspect of the words, and put forward the corresponding recommendations to the inadequacy.In the comparative analysis of the grammar, this paper will analyze the differences between the two sets of teaching materials by the selection and arrangement of grammatical items, which including the number of grammar and the scheduling method of grammar.Afterwards,it compares specific examples of grammatical interpretation method to expound the specific differences about grammar and elaborate the gains and losses of grammatical compiling.With regard to the exercises, this paper will analyze the two sets of textbooks in the quantity,types and contents of exercises,and adopt some written proposals. In short, comparing with previous teaching materials,New Practical Chinese and Boya Chinese,which are the primary comprehensive teaching materials, have made big progress in many aspects. However,each of them has some advantages and disadvantages in the details of contents. And the disadvantages need to be solved and improved by all scholars in Chinese teaching as foreign language.
