The Wood-block New-Year Prints, widely known as Woodcut, was popular in China. Chongqing Liangping Woodcut, printed with printing block, had glorious history and its rich indigenous content and forms have been expressing Liangping people's enthusiasm in life, their customs, world outlook and the influence of faith. With history as the clue, Liangping Woodcut concerned themes are to be reorganized and compiled to unveil the internal relations of its meaning and beauty in form; with folk culture put first, Liangping Woodcut and the relevant image art are to be collected and classified to portray the outlook towards life and the world as well as the changes along with the social development revealed in Liangping Woodcut. The image research will represent the profound culture, roaring vitality and the pursuit of consummation, freedom and vigor uttered by the Woodcut.Since the implementation of the opening up and reform policy, the national concentration has shifted to the modernization construction; the culture environment under Chinese original agricultural civilization rapidly collapsed, with unceasingly developing new technology, gradually evaporating traditional value system, fading ideology, changing lifestyle and the impact of the business culture, which perished Chinese folk culture like the Woodcut. Therefore, it is urgent to research and protect the Woodcut and what is more, to discover the culture, and the hidden life origin represented by the Woodcut images. In the long course of history, like a flash in darkness, the meaning of the Woodcut never dies out.With the history as a clue, the vicissitude of Chongqing Liangping Woodcut image art is to be researched dialectically through art theory, image theory, folk culture theory, historical theory, etc. Meanwhile, the image cultural art and folk culture developed in Liangping, Chongqing, are to be portrayed deep and broad on the crossed theories.
