The present research traces back to the history of American bilingual education focusing on the curriculum arrangement. Bilingual education in China is still in the primary stage, so the curriculum arrangement and the teaching practices can hardly meet the bilingual education. It is worthwhile taking a look at the curriculum arrangement of bilingual education in America and borrowing the experience from it. The thesis consists of six chapters, which are as follows:Chapter one is introduction, in which the research aims, the concepts and researches carried out around the topic home and abroad are introduced.Chapter two forms its structure out of the establishment and development of American bilingual education. Bilingual education in America is a predestined outcome out of the social development. It is helpful for us to study the historical development stages of the bilingual education in America so as to see clear the historical changes of it. It is compared to the bilingual education in China in terms of their social aspect, language background, psychological background and multi-cultural theories.Chapter three is about the relationship between the bilingual education in American primary and middle schools. We study the bilingual curriculum arrangement in the whole bilingual education system in a micro way and a macro aspect. The status and function of the curriculum arrangement of bilingual education is fully elaborated in this part.Chapter four discusses the curriculum arrangement of American bilingual education from the perspectives of its goals, contents, ways, principles, methods and evaluations, which supplies us a more reasonable and scientific reference.Chapter five consists of a case study of the curriculum arrangement of American bilingual education. In this part, we take Arizona rock community school as an example. The specific curriculum arrangements of the school are analyzed.The last chapter is intended on the insight which we draw from the curriculum arrangement in American bilingual education. Summarizing the characteristics of the curriculum arrangement of the American bilingual education, the weak points of our bilingual education are pointed out based on the real situation of bilingual education in Chinese primary and middle schools, which aims at the future reforms of bilingual education in China.
