The translation of EST (English for Science and Technology) has long been neglected due to its rigid and boring appearance. With the development of world economy and intercultural communication, it is of great importance to study EST translation. Although translation theories flourish both at home and abroad in recent years, the theories regarding EST are still far from satisfaction. The purpose of this thesis is to find scientific methods to guide practical translation of EST from the perspective of translation aesthetics.Aesthetics has a comparatively long history in Chinese traditions and culture, and it is an independent academic discipline in the west. Translation aesthetics, which combines translation with aesthetics, is not only of practical significance to translation, but also possesses high artistic values. The core of translation aesthetics is to represent beauty of the source text and create beauty in the target text. How to combine translation aesthetics with the translation of EST flexibly is the thematic thread running through the whole thesis. This thesis is composed of five parts, of which the first and the last part are the introduction and the conclusion, and the rest are divided into three chapters. In the first chapter, by reviewing various translation theories in China and the West, we can see the foundation and growth of translation aesthetics. The second chapter, which begins with a brief introduction to what EST means and what it involves, analyzes five aesthetic characteristics of EST, innovative beauty in words, unity beauty in sentences, objective beauty of passive voice, stable beauty of tense and precise beauty of style. On the basis of translation aesthetics and the characteristics of EST, the third chapter presents some translation methods. For example, for the translation of words and phrases, methods such as invention, ellipsis, use of four-character Chinese set phrase may be adopted. As to the translation of sentences, ordinal translation, back translation or combined translation may be applied to long sentences, and flexible conversion may be employed for passive voice sentences.
