Due to such elements as different languages, cultures and geography,it is hardly possible for translators to turn source language into target language in a perfectly accurate way. There must be some absence of information,so it is essential for the translator to find the proper way to reveal aesthetic value, which is actually about aesthetical representation in translation aesthetics.(Liu Miqing,2005:218)Thus when doing literary translation, translators will bring subjective initiative into full play by making use of various methods to fill in the gaps between the two languages, thus to convey the original connotation and maintain the writing style to display the artistic beauty of literary works and meet the aesthetic requirements of the readers. The aesthetic value of literary translation lies in the aesthetic processing, that is,in the process of turning the source text into the target text, the translator will dig out the inner aesthetic value of the source text and display it in the target text basing on the deep structure.(Wu Cong,2015:8)Must You Go?:My Life With Harold Pinter(hereinafter referred to as Must You Go)is unique in genre. It mainly comprises of the diaries of Antonia Fraser and some of her husband Pinter's lyrics and love poems dedicated to Fraser. In terms of language features, diary and poem represent two extremes of literary creation. The former is characterized by plain and simple narration, the latter, however, pays more attention to refined and elegant words. Thus it is of the great importance to display these two different language features to meet the readers' aesthetic requirements while not affecting the original meaning when doing translation. This thesis explores the different methods applied in translating the source text Must You Go as the author's translation practice from English into Chinese from the perspective of Translation Aesthetics. It mainly consists of four parts:the first part introduces the translation project, including the background of the source text and the reason why I decided to conduct research from the perspective of aesthetics as well as the significance of the translation project;the second part elaborates Translation Aesthetics theory in the following three aspects, the origin of Chinese and Western aesthetic thoughts, the combination of aesthetics and translation studies, and the influence posed by Translation Aesthetics on literary translation;the third part,by the virtue of examples, analyzes the application of different translation methods guided by aesthetic thoughts when doing translation, such as annotation and amplification to fill in the gaps as well as dynamic imitation and fusion of vision to improve the rhythmic beauty of poems;the last part is a conclusion of the whole thesis, concerning some problems left to be solved and what the author has learned from this translation practice.
