Chinese Intensive Reading, aiming at training the students'comprehensive skills namely, listening, speaking, reading and writing, is one of the main courses in preparatory Chinese syllabus for high preparatory education in Xinjiang Uigur Autonomous Region. Due to its role as the foundation of the Chinese intensive teaching and the basis of the all-round skills training, it is necessary and worthwhile making an analytical research to the textbook of Chinese Intensive Reading currently used at universities and colleges in Xinjiang Uigur Autonomous Region. The present study invested seven different versions textbook of Chinese Intensive Reading that currently used in nine universities and colleges in Xinjiang Uigur Autonomous Region and selected three versions as the subject of the present study. The study is based upon the theory of linguistics, pedagogy, psychology, second language acquisition, second language teaching and uses the compiling experience and research result from foreign language teaching, overseas-oriented Chinese teaching, Uigur Minority preparatory education in inner part of China for reference. The satisfaction of both teachers and students are investigated using the method of statistics selecting, questionnaires and interview. The current compelling situation of the text paradigm, text type, text subject, vocabulary, grammar points, exercises of each three samples will be described and analyzed. Some suggestions are provided for the compilation of the preparatory Chinese Intensive Reading after analysis of the merits and shortcomings of the currently used textbookIn terms of the text paradigm of the three textbooks, the layouts are similar and beneficial to each other. As for vocabulary, the foci are quantity, layout and interpretation. The problems of"Cambridge-Intermediate Chinese Course"and"Advancing Chinese Course"lie in that there exist too many new words and non-Uigur interpretation in each unit in; The way of marking the part of speech is not appropriate in"College Chinese- Intensive Reading"; Moreover, the pragmatic usage is neglected for Chinese-Uigur language interpretation. It would be better to express clearly its collocation, pragmatic usage, emotion, and registers. The topics of people's daily life in Xinjiang Uigur Autonomous Region should be the focus of text subject meanwhile the narration should be the main type of the textbook. The layouts of the grammar points of the textbook are well designed switching between difficulty and ease, highlighting the key points and demobilizing the difficult points. However, there exist too many grammar terms, which makes a barrier for the students'understanding. The amount of the exercises are ample in all the textbooks. The forms of the exercises are similar including phonetics, vocabulary, grammar, pattern drill ,passage, communication extension exercises. It is a systemic project to compile textbook. As far as the quantity and varity are concerned, great progress has been made for the preparatory Chinese Intensive Reading at universities and colleges in Xinjiang Uigur Autonomous Region. Based upon the synchronic and analytical research and investigation of the existing problems, some reflections has been given in the dissertation related to the preparatory Chinese Intensive Reading at universities and colleges in Xinjiang Uigur Autonomous Region...
