The Vocabulary Study On The Book Of Jin Lou Zi

The book of Jin Lou Zi is a kind of philosophical writings which is similar to the Eclectics. The thesis tries to study the vocabulary comprehensively in Jin Lou Zi through the comparative method.The language of the book is neither as easy as some scholars think, nor as obscure as others believe. In fact, the second and the third part of the thesis aim to prove that the book is a classical Chinese work through the synchronic description and diachronic comparison. The synchronic description means comparing words of the whole texts and studying them from general. By using it the thesis concludes three characters of the words in Jin Lou Zi, which has extensive vocabulary, some colloquial words and the words full of prominent historical hierarchy; The diachronic comparison is comparing the variant readings. The whole materials about variant readings quoted by Jin Lou Zi are very rich and varied, so they are collected as many as possible and it is concluded four characters of the words of the book: using colloquial words of the Northern and Southern Dynasties as well as the popular words of that time, sometimes imitating the ancient Chinese intentionally but not too much, using synonym without obvious classical-popular relationship instead of the original words, replacing original signal syllable words with double syllable ones.The fourth part of the thesis tempts to study new words and new meanings of them in Jin Lou Zi, finding that they are very rich, which do proves that a large number of words appear and become flourish in the Northern and Southern Dynasties.The fifth part tries to explain words whose meaning are explained wrongly as well as the difficult words that were not recorded in the Chinese Dictionary.The sixth part focuses on careful checking and compilation of it.The thesis can offer material as well as the text of checking and compilation for the study of medieval Chinese vocabulary history and Chinese history...
