The Effect Of Positive Emotion On Implicit Memory And Explicit Memory

The effects of emotion on memory have been concerned by the psychologist .After Warrington found the existence of implicit memory on the study of amnesia by the late 1960s and early 1970s, domestic and overseas psychologists attach importance to the relationship of emotion and memory. However, the researchers before are concentrate on the influence of negative emotion to memory. Recently, as the development of positive psychology and clinic psychology, there are more and more researches on the effect of positive emotion to memory. Many studies shows that positive emotion has many positive effects, It can advance cognition and remove negative emotion. However most researches on the influence of positive emotion to memory adopted special participants and the mood congruence effect of explicit memory and implicit memory has no conformable conclusion.This study mainly investigated on the influence of positive emotion to implicit memory, explored the promotion of positive emotion to implicit memory and explicit memory,as well as discussed the problem of the congruence effect between implicit memory and explicit memory and positive emotion.In order to separate consciousness and unconsciousness, the study adopted a process of parting to divide the participants into contained group and exclusion group by instruction.The experiment adopted mix design. It includes three independent variables,the first independent variable is group which includes positive emotion, neutral emotion and negative emotion. the second independent variable is emotion titer pictures which includes positive pictures, neutral pictures and negative pictures. The third independent variable is test type which includes contained group and exclusion group. The first independent variable is between group variable,the second and the third independent variable is within group variable.The experiment includes study and recognition two stage. The participants should remember 60 pictures and then select the most impressed one. The pictures includes 20 positive pictures, 20neutral pictures and 20 negative pictures,each different titer picture as a group. It is different from other studies and good for prove the existence of mood congruence effect. The recognition stage added 60 more pictures and divided by the same means with the study stage, the participants should judge which one is showed and which one is new. Finally figure out R and A with separation form formula. R means intentionally pick-up while A means unconsciously pick-up. The research conclusions are following:1.Positive emotion can promote explicit memory and, implicit memory is significant comparative to negative emotion and neutral emotion, but it has no significant to explicit memory.. 2. The difference of the influence of positive emotion on explicit memory and implicit memory is not significant between the genders.3. Positive emotion has mood congruence effect in implicit memory and explicit memory.The participants draw positive vocabulary in positive emotion are better than in negative emotion, and draw negative vocabulary in negative emotion are better than in positive emotion.The conclusions of this study are help to more deeply into implicit memory and explicit memory. and it provide evidences for the advancement of positive emotion to cognition.
