AbstractIn Chinese L2 teaching, oral language teaching is the most difficult one. According to my observations in language teaching, students have experienced a transformation from "hot"to "cold"in learning. From the beginning they are quite interested in oral practice, as time goes on they gradually decrease their interests and they seldom speak at the end of the oral course. From the perspective of students?oral ability development, it takes quite a long time for students to make progress and many other students can't meet the demands the syllabus designed at the end of the course. In order to solve the problem in oral hn~uage teaching, this thesis tries to establish a new teaching model according to the characteristics of Chinese students. The thesis is divided into four parts: the first part discusses the present condition of Chinese students in L2 oral classroom and the main problems; the second part describes theoretically the factors involved in L2 oral ability development and the relationship among them, with the further explanation of the poor ability of Chinese students in oral communication; the third part sets up a new teaching model. In this part the author discusses the model in detail from the perspective of students, teaching materials, teacher, and teaching method. The fourth part gives a sample lesson to demonstrate how the model can be used.
