W thesis As1s with cu1tUre-SPeCific ~ems in Chinese-Eng1ish halation. TWlation is theexPression in the targrt langUage of what has been exPressed in the source langUagn, preserving thesemantic and styIishc equivalence. As the vehicle of culttIre. IangUage forrs neary every aspect ofcultUre. In this sense, holations or translators play the role of bridging the tafgt language andsource langUage. How can translators make their edringS accePtable without any distortion, namelyhow can their renderings be faithfuI, expressive and close to the original ones? The answer is that theymust stUdy the originai text in the backgrOund of the souree culfor and get the cultUre-loaded meaningof thc text before undertaking the task of tuslation. Then they can render the original text accordingtO some rules. My thesis is aimed at summing up some effective methods or ruIes tO deal with thesensihve cultUral phenomena in C-E Iranslation.
