With the development of national economy, the teaching of Chinese as a foreignlanguage has become an important strategy for our country to spread Chinese cultureto the world. However, the textbooks’ compilation and study of teaching Chinese as aforeign language is an important part of discipline construction of teaching Chinese asa foreign language. The good teaching materials can help Chinese teachers adoptproper teaching methods to achieve the purpose of teaching successfully, and it alsocan help the students understand and master the language skills efficiently. Along withthe development of teaching Chinese as a foreign language’s discipline theory system,the basic teaching materials suitable for the requirements of the times, conforming todifferent ethnics, mother languages, ages, has become a new teaching material.Teaching Chinese as a foreign language in Southeast Asia has a long history, so manyChinese researchers began to attach importance to write specific Chinese textbooksaccording to the South-eastern student’s Chinese learning characteristicsThis paper selects the first volumes of the "University Chinese" and "ElementaryStandard Chinese" to compare and study."University Chinese" is a localized teachingmaterial suitable for Chinese Teaching in Thailand. Chulalongkorn University inThailand appoints University Chinese Teaching Materials Writing Group to researchand analyze all the existing Chinese teaching materials."The Elementary StandardChinese" is a a book of teaching materials especially for Indonesian Adults’ learningChinese, edited by the teachers of first-class teaching experience.This paper first summarizes the evolution of the primary comprehensive teachingmaterial structure and the writing concept, together with the study of teaching Chineseas a foreign language in southeast Asia. Second, this paper makes the overall researchand comparison of the compilation’s main body and concept of the teaching materials.In the main body of writing the teaching materials, this paper makes the research and comparison from the aspects of texts, new words, grammar, and practice. While in thepart of textbook’s writing concept, this paper makes the research and comparisonfrom the writing objective and the principle.
